You Are Still You!
Divorce changes everything!
From your relationships to your routines, and even how you see yourself.
It’s easy to feel lost.
You forget who you were before you became known as a “wife” or a “partner”.
But here’s the thing: rediscovering who you are – finding the YOU that used to be – can actually be a liberating adventure, not just another one of the many scary things that you have to figure out.
But with Regards to Divorce, Why Does This Even Matter?
Well, after a lifetime of prioritizing others, it can be a challenge to put yourself first.
So, this is your time to ask yourself:
“What makes me feel alive? What lights me up?”
Whether it’s connecting with others or escaping to your own little piece of paradise (which might simply be a day in your fave PJ’s under your coziest blanket, watching your favorite feel-good movies). Rediscovery is about reconnecting with what makes you You!
And rather than thinking of it as fixing something that is broken, think of it as an opportunity to embrace your curiosity about yourself and the world you live in.
Here are a few ways to Rediscover your YOU:
1. Try Something New: Explore local coffee shops or your community center (they often host events like book clubs, craft nights, or workshops). Give yourself permission to experiment without any expectations.
2. Revisit old hobbies: Remember that thing you used to love but never had time for? Maybe it’s painting, gardening, or dancing around your living room singing into your hairbrush.
Just dust it off and see how it feels.
3. Create a Mini Bucket List: Write down three small things you’ve always wanted to do but just never got around to. It could be as simple as hiking a local trail or as challenging as learning another language (try Duolingo – a free app).
4. Savor your YOU time: Rediscovery doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Something as simple as a morning walk, a cup of tea, journaling, or an afternoon spent with a good book, can be just as meaningful and incredibly healing.
The Key Take Away here is “FUN”
Let go of the idea that rediscovering yourself has to be about productivity or achievement.
Instead, approach it with the idea of having fun!
What’s something that always used to make you laugh, or someone who always left you feeling better about yourself?
Give yourself the grace to explore without judgment.
Remember…
You’re still you, even if your circumstances have changed.
This is your chance to uncover the layers that make you beautifully unique.
Take small steps, big steps, fast steps or slow steps —the point is to enjoy the journey.
What’s one fun thing you’ll try this week to rediscover yourself?
